Belgian director now set for Rangers transfer talks after social media revelation last week

Rangers Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen is jetting out to Italy as the club look to firm up “ahead of a busy Summer Transfer Window”.

The Belgian recruitment guru confirmed his attendance at the TransferRoom summit in Rome this week as the club continue to make relationships in the transfer market.

The former PSV Eindhoven recruitment guru will attend the summit and meet with over 70 clubs to strike fresh relationships “ahead of a busy summer transfer window”.

Rangers will be hoping to strike come new contacts with Nils Koppen already working hard to revamp the club’s player trading model since joining in January.

What is the TransferRoom summit?

Rangers have had success with the TransferRoom summit in the past, striking a relationship with Oscar Cortes’s former side FC Millonarios which eventually led to the winger signing on at the club.

The basic premise is that football clubs from all over the world will send representatives to mingle and hopefully strike up contacts within the transfer industry.

Each representative will have up to 38 individual meetings – in a style which has been likened to speed dating – with handshakes aplenty and potential golden nuggets waiting with each conversation.

It’s not just sporting director types who attend the conference either, with Borna Barisic’s representation also expected to be in Rome as the Croatian readies a switch out of Rangers.

Nils Koppen leading Rangers transfer contingent

Rangers are emerging as a really interesting destination for would-be young players who will fit the bill for the Ibrox club’s player trading set-up.

After the latest sets of financial results, chairman John Bennett pledged to ramp up investment in player trading after several years of sporadic if not consistent results.

As part of that, Rangers have several exciting young players on their books with hopes that the signing of the likes of Mohamed Diomande is a sign of things to come.

For Rangers, it’s about identifying talented young footballers who can use the stage at Ibrox to grow into an elite-level player.

It’s about convincing them that a step towards Ibrox can catapult them to the top with the club’s European forays, title ambitions, massive support, and stunning facilities all major selling points.

Nils Koppen is the man leading the charge to do so and don’t be surprised if this trip to Italy is fortuitous for Rangers in more ways than one.
