Leeds could have bargain midfield signing on offer this summer, for £15m they have to do it - opinion

With Leeds United now top of the Championship with just eight games left to play, the club will be looking at making some signings of Premier League calibre, like Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff.

Leeds secured top spot with a 2-0 win over Millwall on Sunday and with Leicester playing in The FA Cup, the Whites were unopposed. The victory has left Gary Lineker “terrified” that Leicester will not go up.

Promotion looks a real possibility now as Daniel Farke gets the best out of his side at just the right time. The transfer team now need to start considering new Leeds signings that are Premier League standard.

One player being linked is Newcastle star Longstaff. A box-to-box midfielder that is capable of scoring goals, but also operating more defensively in front of the back four. He’s been excellent for The Toon.

The 26-year-old is about to enter the final 12 months of his deal and may find himself moving further down the pecking order on Tyneside. Sandro Tonali is almost back, and the Toon have midfield options.

Leeds United want Sean Longstaff and £15m deal is a bargain

Joe Willock, Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and even Lewis Miley might now be ahead of Longstaff in the pecking order. He is likely to be on the move this summer and Leeds are interested in doing a deal.

Whether he would be tempted by Leeds remains to be seen – with the report claiming a fee of £15m would be required. A bargain, given Newcastle wanted £50m for him back in 2019 under Mike Ashley.

Given he is a regular in the Premier League, played in the Champions League and is available for just £15m, Leeds have to do a deal – especially, as Newcastle wanted £35m more just five years ago.
