‘Ridiculous situation’: Stan Collymore blasts Premier League for ‘grossly unfair’ Everton & Forest deduction

Everton were watching Nottingham Forest’s PSR case with keen interest, and the news has finally broke.

They are to be deducted a mere four points.

Likely using their time spent in the Championship as a reason behind such a pitiful punishment in comparison to the one the Toffees were initially administered, this has unsurprisingly captured the attention.

Stan Collymore was one pundit who shares a particular interest in this decision, and was quick to find a platform and voice his frustrations with the Premier League.

What Stan Collymore said about Everton and Nottingham Forest’s deduction

Collymore was unsurprisingly vocal and passionate about the outcome, in which the deduction precedent set by Everton was actually ignored.

Well, speaking live to talkSPORT earlier today (18/03, 2:20 pm), the former Forest and Liverpool striker actually sought to defend Everton whilst recognising that the system itself is the problem, not those who have flouted the rules.

He claimed: ‘We have a ridiculous situation where Everton Football Club, one of the founders of the football league, got initially a ten-point and then reduced to six-point for a £20m overspend.

‘But Manchester United, one of the other grand dames of English football are 3/4 of a billion pounds in debt. That, to me, seems grossly unfair.’

His example is a fair one, and only exhibits the frustrations of fans of weaker sides in the Premier League, who feel like the division favours the money-making big guns at the top end of the table.

The Premier League make another ridiculous decision

Everton were charged with a mere £19m overspend from the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, and the division instantly lobbied for a 12-point deduction.

It was ludicrously severe and an unprecedented notion, however it was that uncertainty which provided the ability for them to press for that punishment.

In the end, they settled on ten points, still drawing mass uproar. And rightly so.

After all, the numerous mitigating factors had quite clearly been disregarded by those in positions of power, with the decision-makers woefully uninformed.

Without a set rulebook with which to follow, it afforded the Premier League the ability to do whatever they wanted.

Eventually seeing it reduced to six points upon appeal, it is therefore crazy that Forest’s first sanction is a mere four points.

Another truly mind-boggling move from the Premier League, who have now alienated themselves from Evertonians for good. They will never recover from this.
