Newark and District Round Table and Children’s Bereavement Centre to host Newark Duck Race on River Trent for a second year

Thousands of ducks will be racing down the river to raise funds for charity in less than a week.

Newark and District Round Table and Children’s Bereavement Centre have come together once again to host the second Newark Duck Race on the River Trent on Sunday, March 24.

The event was meant to take place in October 2023, however, it had to be postponed due to heavy rain and high river levels.

The event takes place at Riverside Park, Newark and River Trent in front of the Castle from 11am to 2pm.

The duck race will take the same course as the Dragon Boat Festival with the first race starting at 1pm with 12 large duck decorated by school being released.

At 1.10pm, 39 large ducks decorated by businesses will race down the Trent.

A thousand small ducks will be released down the river for the third race at 1.20pm.

The ducks will be released from the green foot bridge at Swan and Salmon and it is expected to end by 1.30pm.

There will be several activities family-friendly throughout the event, including hook a duck, chuck a duck and pluck a duck by £1 a go and the opportunity to win prizes.

There will also be an Easter Egg hunt sponsored by GXO, a face painter available all day and the fire service will be in attendance with two units and a boat.

Francos’ ice cream and a barista coffee van will be on site, with music and live commentary from the team at Radio Newark.

The winning duck will receive a £100 cash and other winning prizes include ice skating passes, swimming passes from Active 4 today and food vouchers.

645 small rubber ducks have already been sponsored for £2 each.

The duck race has been supported by businesses in the area and Newark Business Club, who have donated£80 for a large 32cm duck which will be decorated.

35 large corporate ducks have been sponsored and decorated by groups, schools and companies.
