'Wants to leave': £43m attacker is determined to change clubs after being linked with Arsenal - journalist

It’s become abundantly clear that if Mikel Arteta wants to improve his Arsenal squad this summer then players will need to leave.

Not only will Arsenal need to raise funds to support their plans, but Arteta will also need to avoid creating a bloated squad.

With the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey and Oleksandr Zinchenko returning just before the break, Arsenal’s squad looked the healthiest it had been for some time.

And whilst it doesn’t necessarily seem as if there’s too many cooks right now, a few more could definitely spoil the broth.

Emile Smith Rowe seems to be a player who could depart, and perhaps Arsenal do already have a few targets in mind if a deal could be sanctioned.

That being said, former Arsenal man Donyell Malen is thought to be a target moving forwards.

And German journalist Patrick Berger has just shared a post on X explaining that Malen wants to leave Borussia Dortmund, confirming that interest from Arsenal.

Berger claimed that Dortmund were open to selling the attacker despite the impressive season he’s enjoying, perhaps paving the way for a return to England.

Berger explained that Manchester United wasn’t a potential path for Malen right now, but mentioned that Liverpool were also monitoring the situation.

He said: “Donyell Malen still wants to leave Dortmund. Summer departure expected, as Borussia Dortmund is open to sell the attacker (13 goals, 5 assists).

“Price tag: €40-50m all in. Arsenal and Liverpool are interested. Manchester United is not a hot topic at the moment.”

Of course, Malen would present a very interesting profile for Arsenal’s attacking line right now.

The 25-year-old is predominantly considered a right winger but is also adept at playing through the middle.

According to Transfermarkt, Malen has played 23 games at right wing this season scoring 12 goals.

Whereas the forward has only played as a central striker once.

But either way, the Dutchman, who already has roots in north London, could be a perfect profile to provide back up and competition for both Bukayo Saka on the right and Gabriel Jesus centrally.

Perhaps some Arsenal fans may want Arteta to seek a more ambitious signing, someone of Victor Osimhen’s level, but Malen’s willingness to leave could present an opportunity at a good value.

Certainly one to keep an eye on, even if a better option may already exist in the Premier League.
