'We didn't agree': Joao Cancelo shares what went wrong between him and Pep Guardiola at Man City

Joao Cancelo has broken his silence on what went wrong between him and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

In January last year, the world was shell-shocked to witness Cancelo shipped off to Bayern Munich on loan after losing his place in City’s side for a couple of games after the Qatar World Cup.

It was reported in August that Pep Guardiola and the Portuguese full-back had problems in their working relationship since the 2021/2022 season.

Joao Cancelo says he “didn’t agree” with Pep Guardiola on some things

Recently, the 29-year-old, who is currently on loan at Barcelona expressed his desire to sign for the club permanently in the summer transfer window.

In June, Guardiola admitted that even if City had to sell the former Inter Milan technician to arch-rivals Manchester United, they would have.

Now, Joao Cancelo has provided his brief side of the story about his relationship with Pep Guardiola.

“There are things we didn’t agree on, we’re not obligated to agree on everything. I had things I didn’t agree on or he didn’t agree with something I said, it was just that. But I don’t have resentment, I am very grateful. Life goes on, I am very, very happy here”, he told Portuguese outlet RTP.

Classy answer from Joao Cancelo

Instead of revealing all the details behind the potential disagreement with Pep Guardiola, Joao Cancelo chose not to take that route.

Cancelo has expressed his gratitude towards working with Guardiola, who is one of the greatest managers the game has ever seen.

Before the ex-Valencia defender left City to join Bayern and Barcelona as well, he was one of the Sky Blues’ mainstays and one of the best players in European football.

Last month, Paul Merson claimed that the Benfica academy product“changed the face of football” as he popularised the use of the inverted full-back position in the Premier League.

Perhaps Cancelo’s relationship with Guardiola did break down but instead of firing shots at him and causing drama, he chose to focus on his football, which is always preferable to a needless public rift.
