Major Kalvin Phillips twist emerges as Moyes reportedly performs big U-turn

West Ham United manager David Moyes has changed his mind on recent loan signing Kalvin Phillips it seems.

David Moyes brought Kalvin Phillips to West Ham United on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City in the January transfer window

Highly regarded Hammers inside journalist Jacob Steinberg reported at the time how Moyes pushed really hard to bring him to the London Stadium.

Moyes is obviously a huge fan of Phillips and his qualities. He could have joined us just under two years ago before he moved to Manchester City instead.

Stan Collymore recently criticised the 28-year-old midfielder for joining Man City in 2022, and suggested that it has ruined his career.

Phillips has looked painfully off the pace since joining the Hammers. He’s hardly played any football over the past 18 months, so that’s understandable. What does Moyes think about signing him on a permanent deal in the summer though?

Kalvin Phillips twist emerges as David Moyes performs U-turn

According to Give Me Sport, Moyes will not push to sign Phillips permanently from Manchester City when the summer transfer window opens.

That’s because the Scot is said to be lining up a move to sign OH Leuven midfielder Mandela Keita instead.

If Moyes really isn’t keen on signing Phillips permanently, it would represent quite the turnaround from his previous stance on the England international midfielder.

In fairness to Kalvin, he’s well undercooked when it comes to match fitness but let’s be honest here, he has been really poor whenever he’s been given a chance by Moyes so far.

Kalvin Phillips was signed by David Moyes to provide some proper competition and cover for Edson Alvarez, but he’s quite clearly not even close to being on the Mexican’s level.

The 28-year-old will surely now be ruing his decision to join Man City in the summer of 2022, as it has clearly held him back as a player.

What the future holds for Phillips is anyone’s guess, but it seems as though he won’t be playing his football for West Ham beyond the end of this current season.
