Iconic former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has appeared to drop a rare compliment on one Liverpool star, despite not naming him specifically.
Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out of management in 2013 after he led Manchester United to their last Premier League title at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
Considered one of the best managers of all time, Ferguson famously bragged about his achievement of knocking Liverpool off their perch in English football.
The 82-year-old legendary Scotsman lifted an incredible 13 Premier League titles, with United winning the most domestic league trophies in history at 20.
The Red Devils are one league trophy ahead of Liverpool, who last lifted the Premier League title under outgoing manager Reds boss Jurgen Klopp in 2020.
Ferguson had a heated rivalry with Liverpool’s managers of the past during his time at Old Trafford, with the Scotsman keen to assert United’s dominance at the top.
The former United boss even went as far as to say that one legendary former Liverpool star was “not a top” player, despite trying to sign him twice.

Ferguson’s praise for Liverpool star
Sir Alex Ferguson was asked about the Scotland national team after Steve Clarke’s men punched their ticket to Euro 2024 in Germany this summer.
Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay featured in Scotland’s Euro 2024 qualifying campaign and was in red-hot goalscoring form for his country.
Scotland are in Group A alongside host nation Germany, Hungary and Switzerland, with Steve Clarke’s side in action in the opening match of Euro 2024.
Ferguson admitted that Scotland have two impressive full-backs, with Andy Robertson, who is captain of his country, a first-choice full-back under Clarke.
When asked if Germany have an “underdog chance” of beating Scotland, the United legend told Eintracht Frankfurt’s official website: “No chance [laughs].
“I’m going to see that game live. I must see it. Scotland are not that bad, you know. They have good midfielders, two good full-backs.
“Only the striker position has been difficult in the last few years. The Scottish fans are going to be fantastic. I will always remember the World Cup in Italy, 1990.”
Ferguson to watch Scotland at Euro 2024
Ferguson briefly managed Scotland in the 1980s while he was still at Aberdeen, with the former United boss taking charge after Jock Stein tragically passed away.
The former Aberdeen manager has revealed that he will be attending Euro 2024, which will be held from June to July, and will watch Scotland in action in Germany.
“I’m going to a Scotland game during the group stages, and I see a big bus from Glasgow,” Ferguson continued.
“They took the top off the bus and were having a barbecue on the top off the double-decker.
“And there is no way that I reach the stadium without going by the bus. Of course, they see me and shout: ‘Alex. Come on up, we’ve got a barbecue ready (laughs)!”
“The Scottish fans are fantastic. The great thing about them and the Scottish life is the kilt. Every town in Scotland has its own, and so does every football club.
“Everybody wears them. I won’t be wearing it at the Euros, but I’m looking forward to it.”
