Mock-up image sparks great David Moyes West Ham statue debate

Debate is raging over whether David Moyes would be deserving of a statue at West Ham after a mock-up image was posted online.

The future of David Moyes at West Ham beyond this summer is uncertain right now.

The Scot has faced question marks over his style and approach from some Hammers fans.

He was even subjected to regrettable ‘Moyes Out’ signs following a 2-0 defeat at Forest.

The manager recently insisted it is he who is delaying signing a new contract.

Wherever you stand over Moyes, there is no denying he has overseen a superb period in West Ham’s history no matter what happens come the summer.

In two spells he has saved the Hammers from relegation twice.

Moyes’ brilliant body of work at West Ham

Moyes then led West Ham to a sixth place finish off the back of the club’s highest ever points total of the Premier League era. The Hammers missed out on Champions League football that season by a solitary win.

The Hammers then made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League while finishing seventh in the Premier League. That was enough to qualify for Europe again.

West Ham then went on to win the Europa Conference League. It was the club’s first major trophy for 43 years. And it ensured qualification for Europe again despite a disappointing 15th place league finish.

This season West Ham have been much more competitive in the league and sit seventh – which will be rewarded with European qualification for a fourth consecutive season if they can stay there.

Mock-up image sparks new statue debate

Meanwhile the Hammers have made the quarter-finals of the Europa League again. Should they win that competition they would qualify for the Champions League.

Despite having that body of work behind him, debate continues to rage over whether a more progressive manager is needed at West Ham from next season.

And with good reason.

A highly detailed recent analysis by Sky Sports left Moyes nowhere to hide in terms of style and approach.

And high profile pundit Jamie Carragher said he believes Moyes and West Ham should part ways in the summer.

Now a mock-up image has sparked a great Moyes West Ham statue debate.

Hammers fan account West Ham Central on X has over 110,000 followers.

And it has stirred fervent debate by posting a mock-up image showing a statue of Moyes outside the London Stadium with the caption: “Would this be deserved?”

Winning Europa League seen as grounds to honour Moyes

Many fans pointed out that club legends Ron Greenwood and John Lyall should get statues first.

And although a large number said Moyes should not get a statue, just as many believe he deserves one if he leads West Ham to Europa League glory.

It’s certainly an intriguing question.

Ironically a journalist recently claimed the only way Moyes will keep his job at West Ham is by winning the Europa League.

Well it seems if he does that most fans feel he deserves a statue too.
