Lewis Miley sends three-word message to his brother on Instagram after he helps beat Sunderland

The Newcastle United senior team beat Sunderland earlier this year, and now the Under-21s have tasted Tyne-Wear derby delight.

After Eddie Howe’s side won the derby in the FA Cup back in January, this time it was Ben Dawson and the Newcastle Under-21s triumphing on Wearside.

The young Magpies took on Sunderland at the Academy Of Light, and won 3-2 in the Premier League 2 fixture.

Kyle Crossley bagged a brace for Newcastle, while Cathal Heffernan, who captained the side, scored his first Under-21s goal with a header.

That came from a Jamie Miley corner, with the 20-year-old making just his second appearance after a five-month injury layoff. He had been missing since October, having suffered an ankle ligament injury during a UEFA Youth League game against Borussia Dortmund.

But now he is back, and the midfielder has received a message of support from his younger brother Lewis Miley after the derby day victory.

Lewis Miley sends message to brother Jamie after Tyne-Wear derby win

Following Newcastle Under-21s’ win over Sunderland, Jamie Miley took to Instagram to post some images from the victory.

He received numerous replies from his teammates, as well as one from a member of the Newcastle United first-team.

Lewis Miley commented on his brother’s post, writing: “Love it brother.”

Really impressive win over Sunderland for Newcastle youngsters

It really was an impressive win for the young Magpies, who were without Alex Murphy. That is because he is away in Dubai with the first-team, as Eddie Howe’s players enjoy some warm weather training during the international break.

But there was an appearance from Alfie Harrison, the 18-year-old midfielder who joined the club from Manchester City earlier this year. He continues to make an impression at youth level, amid claims he could make his senior Newcastle debut before the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

As for Sunderland, they put out a strong team. They included multiple senior players in the youth fixture, with Corry Evans making his first appearance in over a year after a lengthy injury absence. Pierre Ekwah also started, who famously made a major mistake to hand Alexander Isak a goal in the FA Cup back in January.

Surprisingly, the Newcastle youngsters triumphed over a lot of Sunderland’s senior players, much to the delight of everyone on Tyneside.
