Newcastle United fans continue to sweat over the future of Bruno Guimaraes, with the midfielder linked with leaving this summer.
The 26-year-old is a man in demand, with Manchester City currently being linked with signing Newcastle United’s talisman. Plenty of other clubs are also keeping an eye, with the Brazilian’s £100million release clause possibly giving him a route out of St James’ Park.
And that route certainly looked a bit clearer on Saturday night after the Magpies were knocked out of the FA Cup. Newcastle’s trophy hopes are over for another year, and they now have 10 Premier League games to save their season.
Those are the words of Bruno Guimaraes, whose post-match comments on Saturday caused panic among the Toon Army. It led to increased fears over a move away from Tyneside at the end of the season, but an update from iNews has provided encouragement towards the contrary.
Bruno Guimaraes not thinking about leaving Newcastle United
According to iNews, Bruno’s current mindset is that he is not expecting to leave Newcastle United this summer.
That is certainly positive, and should ease the fears of Toon fans who are dreading the day Bruno waves goodbye. It will happen eventually, but it might not be as soon as this summer.
However, there is always a chance that Bruno’s mindset could change if the club misses out on Europe completely. That would be understandable, given the calibre of player that he is and the level of suitors he is attracting.
That is perhaps why he has spoke about Newcastle having 10 games to save their season. It could also be 10 games that save his Toon career.
Right now, the Magpies are 10th in the Premier League with 10 games to go. If the season ended now, we would not qualify for Europe.
But we are still in the mix, and sit four points behind seventh-placed West Ham United. Interestingly, they are our next opponent, so that game at St James’ Park could really be a season-defining one. And it could also play a huge role in determining Bruno Guimaraes’ Newcastle future.
For now, he is going nowhere.
