'I told him': £60m Tottenham player admits he cares more about playing for his country than Spurs

Richarlison has now admitted that he cares more about playing for Brazil than Tottenham.

The 26-year-old made the comments when speaking to Globo Esporte.

So, what did Tottenham No.9 Richarlison say about Brazil? Let’s take a look…

Richarlison chooses Brazil over Tottenham

Well, it is not often that footballers admit something like this, but the £60m man has now revealed that he cares more about Brazil than Spurs.

Richarlison said: “He (Dorival Junior – Brazil Manager) came and talked to us eye to eye, and I told him that the national team comes first for me. It’s God in heaven and the national team on earth. I passed on that confidence to him. It’s the start of a new cycle, it’s great to be at this beginning, I hope we can build a winning team.”

This is not unusual for a South American footballer.

Those from that part of the globe seem to be far more passionate about playing for their countries than any other nationality, with players often in tears during international matches – or even before as the national anthem begins to play.

26-year-old risks annoying people

Of course, Richarlison – who also warned his teammates to watch out for Harry Kane – is clearly passionate about Brazil, but perhaps he should have kept this one to himself.

Tottenham are the ones who spent £60m on the Brazilian and also pay his £175,000-a-week wages, so he may have now made a rod for his own back by admitting his preference for Brazil.

For example, if Richarlison ends up suffering any injuries close to an important international fixture and misses games for Spurs, some might now accuse him of pulling a fast one on Ange Postecoglou.

Hopefully, a toxic situation like that does not occur, although the man from Nova Venécia is surely risking his relationship with a few Tottenham fans by making these comments.
