'Little bit awkward': Mark Schwarzer shares why he now fears for Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest were deducted four points on Monday after breaching financial fair play regulations and Mark Schwarzer is now fearing for the Reds this season.

The former Premier League goalkeeper was speaking on the Optus Sport Football Podcast. He’s been discussing the deduction and delivering a verdict on how this shapes things up for the Reds.

Forest have now slipped into the relegation zone, one point and one place below Luton Town in the Premier League table. The Reds are back in action on Saturday week when they face Crystal Palace at the City Ground.

What Mark Schwarzer has said about Nottingham Forest

Well, it would appear as though some people could now be changing their opinions on Forest this season just a little bit. Before, Forest were fancied to stay up, however, now things will become a little tougher.

Forest do have some good fixtures to come on the horizon. Next up it’s three out of four games at home, with Palace, Fulham and Wolves all to come to the City Ground.

Schwarzer has now suggested, however, that he’s a little fearful for Forest. The Reds haven’t been in good form this season and now they’re in the relegation zone, things will be tough.

He told the Optus Sport Football Podcast: “100% they’ve got to appeal but it does make things a little bit awkward for them. They are struggling, they’re on the slide and they haven’t really improved that much this year. I know there have been glimpses but I don’t think they’ve done anywhere near enough. It makes the fight for survival a little bit more difficult.”

Will Forest make an appeal over points deduction?

Right now, this is a million-dollar question. Forest will need to know whether or not the outcome can mean more than a four-point deduction before they consider an appeal.

If there is absolutely no chance of it being more than four then as Schwarzer says, it’s a no-brainer for Forest to appeal the decision – just as Everton did earlier this season.

The challenge now is for Forest to move on from his whole debacle. It’s been hanging over the players for too long and clearly, it has impacted performances.

Schwarzer is hardly giving a bold opinion to say he now fears for Forest. Technically the club’s fate is no longer in their own hands but with lots of points to play for, there is still hope for the Reds.
