The one statistic that will give Danny Rohl huge hope in Sheffield Wednesday's relegation dogfight

A football analyst has revealed some interesting PPG stats that should give Sheffield Wednesday some hope in their relegation battle.

Sheffield Wednesday have endured a major rollercoaster of a campaign, having looked set for an immediate return to League One after only a matter of months.

Danny Rohl brought some positivity to Hillsborough when he was appointed though, and a brilliant patch of form over Christmas gave the club some hope.

Results dipped again though, and now they sit in a similar position after winning five of their last eight games, with only a point separating themselves and safety.

Sheffield Wednesday only have eight games left of the season to save their Championship status, while there is another seven teams that are battling it out to avoid the drop.

It is one of the tightest relegation scraps we have seen in a while and it could be seen as both a good and a bad thing for the Owls – it all depends of they can keep picking up some points.

There may be many supporters doubting the team’s ability to finally climb out of the relegation zone right at the death, but one statistic could give them a lot more hope.

As per TW Football on X, Sheffield Wednesday’s eight upcoming opponents have the second-lowest average PPG (points per game) in the Championship – 1.20. Only Swansea City (1.18) have lower, and they currently sit seven points from the drop.

Sheffield Wednesday have certainly already got past the worst of it, with the stats also showing they have already played teams with an average of 1.45 PPG – the second highest in the league.

Games against the likes of QPR, Stoke and Blackburn could definitely be huge for the Owls, while Rovers have a whopping average PPG of 1.70 to play, including Ipswich, Leeds and Southampton.

What will happen in Sheffield Wednesday’s final eight fixtures?

Sheffield Wednesday’s remaining fixtures are Swansea City (H), Middlesbrough (A), QPR (A), Norwich (H), Stoke (H), Blackburn (A), West Brom (H) and Sunderland (A).

Danny Rohl’s side will be hoping to take maximum points from Swansea, QPR and Stoke, while points against Blackburn, Norwich and West Brom are surely up for grabs.

Sunderland have also been in very poor form and their final game of the campaign won’t really mean anything, so if it goes down to the last day, the Owls could be in a good position.

Middlesbrough would be an extremely tricky tie even if they are out of the play-off race.

The Yorkshire outfit can probably hope for a maximum of 15 points from a possible 24 over the next couple of months, which would surely keep them safe.
