Report: West Ham hope to beat Tottenham and Pochettino to signing of 'world-class' £60m striker

West Ham United have reportedly joined the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in the race for one of the Premier League’s most highly sought-after strikers.

The Hammers are in need of bolstering their attacking ranks at the end of the season, with a new centre-forward a must.

A new striker at West Ham would help take some of the workload off Michail Antonio and also provide assistance for Jarrod Bowen.

Now, according to The Sun, the Hammers have set their sights on Ivan Toney, a player also sought after by Spurs and the Blues.

The report also suggests that West Ham, Tottenham and Chelsea are the three leading suitors, with Arsenal said to have cooled their interest.

A source suggested that the Hammers see Toney as a real statement signing that could help take them to the next level.

Toney would be a great shout for West Ham. The 28-year-old has proven himself in the Premier League over the past few years, and would increase their firepower massively.

The ‘world-class‘ Hammers, Spurs and Blues target hit the ground running this year after returning from suspension. He scored four goals in his first five games back for Brentford.

And even though the Bees squad has been without key players in recent weeks and Toney hasn’t had as much service, he has still done quite well.

West Ham will certainly fancy their chances of signing Toney ahead of Chelsea, who are currently blowing hot and cold and don’t seem likely to get European football this season.

Tottenham will be a tougher proposition though, as they’re still in contention for a Champions League spot.

And obviously if Arsenal rekindle their interest, they could pose a problem for the Hammers too.

According to Sportslens, Toney may well be available for as low as £60million this summer. This is a significant reduction on his reported £100million price tag in January.
