Ian Poveda sends four-word message to Sheffield Wednesday fans after latest injury concern

Ian Poveda has sent Sheffield Wednesday fans a four-word message on his Instagram after news emerged of his recent injury.

Ian Poveda joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan on deadline day and has been a catalyst to the team’s improvement in form, becoming a mainstay in the starting line-up after bagging his first assist in the win over Birmingham City last month.

The Colombian is still waiting for his first goal in blue and white, but he has still made a great impression on the team, already racking up eleven key passes and 17 successful dribbles in eight games.

Poveda was likely to be vital in the Owls’ final eight games of the campaign as they looked to avoid relegation, however the club suffered a huge blow when Danny Rohl confirmed his injury.

Alongside Barry Bannan, the winger was forced off before the hour mark of their 6-0 defeat to Ipswich Town at the weekend, with Rohl explaining: “This is maybe the bigger defeat.

“It could be that both players are out for a couple of weeks, but lets have a look… I think for Ian it’s not possible to go to the national team with his muscle injury, but hopefully with Barry it goes well. At the moment it’s hard, for four months we’ve played really at our limit and sometimes over it…

“They could be a risk for the Swansea game, but the good thing is that we have one week where we can recover, and then a second week – but we then have a game on the Friday and the Monday.”

Journalist Joe Crann then confirmed that Poveda was a ‘doubt’ for the Swansea City game, but it is unclear how much longer he will be out for after that.

The Leeds United loanee had stayed tight-lipped on his injury, but has now shared a four-word message on his Instagram story.

With a photo of him in the gym, Poveda wrote: “Gonna be back stronger.”

How to handle Ian Poveda’s injury at Hillsborough

While the 24-year-old’s absence is far from ideal, the international break has come at the perfect time as the Owls look to welcome back some key players.

Callum Paterson could be one player who returns at the end of the month, while Rohl admitted he is hopeful that Josh Windass will be back by the trip to Middlesbrough at the latest.

The return of the experienced duo could make Poveda’s injury a bit easier to take and will give the German coach different options as to how he can set up. They will also add some much-needed leadership and quality to a team that could now be without Bannan too.
