Arsenal and Chelsea could soon be involved in another Mudryk situation as rumour emerges - opinion

Arsenal and Chelsea could soon be involved in another Mykhailo Mudryk situation in the transfer market.

Both the Gunners and the Blues dominated headlines back in January 2023 as the London rivals battled to sign the Ukraine international from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Arsenal led the race for most of the month, before Chelsea eventually blew all other offers out of the water with a stunning £85.5m bid.

Now – ahead of the summer transfer window – we could have another Mykhailo Mudryk situation on our hands with Arsenal and Chelsea

Arsenal and Chelsea could be involved in another Mykhailo Mudryk situation with Heorhiy Sudakov

Well, both Mikel Arteta and Mauricio Pochettino are believed to be keen on signing Heorhiy Sudakov from Shakhtar Donetsk this summer – according to Mirko Di Natale of Tutto Juve.

The Shakhtar Donetsk No.10 – who inherited the shirt from Mudryk – has impressed in an attacking midfield role this season with five goals in 24 appearances this season, amid comparisons to Christian Eriksen.

So, why could this be another Mudryk situation?

Well – aside from the fact both are Ukraine internationals – Sudakov also has a similar value.

Di Natale states that the 21-year-old has a release clause worth €100m (£85m) written into his contract at Shakhtar Donetsk, which is roughly the same figure Chelsea signed Mudryk for.

Arsenal and Chelsea are both said to have already made contact to sign Sudakov after sending an enquiry to Shakhtar Donetsk, so we could well have another famous transfer battle between the London rivals brewing.

Finances will prove decisive

As aforesaid, Chelsea eventually outbid Arsenal for Mudryk – although the Blues may struggle to finance a similar hijack this summer.

According to football finance expert Stefan Borson – who spoke on talkSPORT – Chelsea will struggle to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules unless they make major sales this summer.

Therefore, the west Londoners are unlikely to find themselves in a position where they can throw £85m at anybody, which could mean Arsenal have an easier run at Sudakov.

It seems as if the Gunners will enter the summer in a completely different financial situation to Chelsea, with reports suggesting that Arsenal can afford a significant signing.

There is believed to be strong interest in Sporting CP No.9 Viktor Gyokeres, who also has an £85m release clause, so Arteta and Edu certainly seem to be sniffing around the more expensive options on the market.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Arsenal, as it could be a busy summer for the Gunners.
