Enzo Maresca now told who has really ‘let the side down’ at Leicester City recently

Leicester City dropped to second in the Championship last weekend after Leeds United secured a 2-0 victory against Millwall.

The Foxes were in FA Cup action against Chelsea whilst their promotion rivals Leeds and Ipswich Town notched three points in the league.

City’s visions of breaking the 106-point record are now a distant memory as they are in real danger of dropping out of the top two altogether.

Enzo Maresca‘s side so have a game in hand on the aforementioned pair and must make it count as we head into the business end of the season.

The sudden demise has left many wondering where it all went wrong and one pundit has labelled much of the blame on the strikers.

Speaking on the What The EFL?! podcast, former Arsenal winger turned pundit Adrian Clarke discussed where it’s gone wrong at Leicester.

“Leicester are undeniably in a flat spot. It makes me wonder ‘did they just lose an edge?’ They were so far out in front,” Clarke said.

“There is a real danger they’ll end up in the playoffs which just seems bonkers, doesn’t it?

“I just think it’s the strikers really that have let the side down for Leicester City this season.

“Maresca has been a bit odd in his choice of strikers. He’s gone through phases, one where Vardy’s the blue-eyed boy then it’s Daka and we saw Cannon and Iheanacho, they’ve had good moments this season but are barely used at the moment.

“So he needs at least two of those four to hit some kind of form between now and the end of the season or it could be disastrous.”

Leicester City are over-reliant on Jamie Vardy

It’s pretty evident that Jamie Vardy is the first-choice striker at the club but it’s not always possible to start him in every game.

The Sheffield-born forward celebrated his 37th birthday in January and has to be managed accordingly heading into the business end of the campaign.

In the absence of City’s top scorer, there has been a real lack of potency up top and Patson Daka, particularly, has been profligate, at times.

Kelechi Iheanacho enjoyed a good start to the campaign but has seen his minutes limited of late, sp perhaps Maresca should consider reintegrating him into the starting 11.

Leicester return to Championship action after the international break and will face Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
