Fabrizio Romano: City Football Group have a “serious interest” in signing Luciano Rodriguez

The 20-year-old is a relatively unknown commodity in European football, currently playing for Liverpool Montevideo.

The Uruguayan is a right-winger by trade but is also known to be the type of forward who can play across the frontline.

The Italian journalist has also claimed that CFG plans to bid for the youngster.

However, it is believed that they have set a cap on the fee they wish to pay to acquire the versatile forward’s services — £11.7 million ($15 million).

The Uruguay Under-23 international also has a 25% sell-on clause in his current deal.

However, CFG are not the only ones who remain keen on signing Rodriguez, with Feyenoord also named as one of his suitors and that too since January.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Manchester City were closing in on a deal to sign Cavan Sullivan.

While City also signed Claudio Echeverri earlier this year, who is on loan at River Plate until next January which indicates that clubs in the CFG are especially focusing on signing young players in 2024.

Similarly, Savio, who has impressed during his loan spell at Girona from Troyes is believed to be headed to the Etihad Stadium, with a deal agreed,as per a revelation in February.

If the City Football Group do get a deal over the line for Luciano Rodriguez, they will hope that he does wonders at one of their clubs before potentially signing for Manchester City.

However, only time will tell whether CFG actually win the race for his signature.
