Report: West Ham interested in signing £20m forward who said they were going to collapse this season

West Ham are now said to be considering a move for a striker who was less than complimentary about them earlier in the season.

Finding a new centre-forward simply has to be the priority for David Moyes and his team during the off-season.

Michail Antonio once again proved his importance against Aston Villa last weekend, proving a vital figurehead in Moyes’ gameplan to press the opposition defence.

Vladimir Coufal was receiving the ball in excellent areas down the right and it did only seem a matter of time before he found Antonio with a cross.

Jarrod Bowen is excellent across any forward position, but a new striker, who would be available for more games than 33-year-old Antonio, would surely be so welcome in addition.

Danny Ings surely doesn’t have a significant future at the club and Divin Mubama is still learning the trade.

All that being said, it seems as if West Ham may now make a push for a striker who had a lot to say about them earlier in the season.

According to SportsLens, the Hammers are now showing considerable interest in Callum Wilson.

West Ham interested in Newcastle striker Callum Wilson after negative comments this season

Callum Wilson, who famously featured on a podcast with Michail Antonio, predicted that West Ham would slip down the table back in January.

West Ham were sixth in the table at the time, and given they are now sat in seventh, his dramatic call hasn’t really come to fruition just yet.

That being said, this new report explains that Newcastle United will have a decision to make on Wilson’s future this summer, with his contract set to expire in 2025.

Wilson cost Newcastle £20m back in 2020, but the club are now thought to be willing to accept a smaller fee for the 32-year-old should they decide to sell.

Personally I don’t think the move would represent a good one for West Ham.

Although Wilson has a strong scoring record in the Premier League, 86 goals in 217 games, he’s been injured far too often in the past few seasons.

West Ham need a striker who is available week in, week out, rather than another player who will occasionally contribute in similar fashion to Antonio.

So whilst West Ham may be a potential landing spot for Wilson after the season, the club could surely find a better suited striker.

All that being said, West Ham are now also linked with a much more exciting move for the summer.
