'I think Arsenal will take it': Gunners could cash in on £30m player this summer as PL clubs circle - journalist

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has put together an outstanding squad at the Emirates Stadium over the past few years.

The Gunners boss has cleared out the deadwood and signed – and promoted – players who have the right quality and attitude.

However, it’s extremely unlikely that all of Arsenal’s first-teamers that are here this season will be here come the end of the summer transfer window.

For instance, Gunners goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been heavily linked with a move away after losing his No. 1 spot to David Raya.

The future of several Hale End graduates also appears uncertain.

It remains to be seen whether the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson will be here next season.

Arsenal-leaning journalist Charles Watts has now provided an update, as well as his thoughts, on Nelson’s future at the club.

The 24-year-old was being linked with a move away from the Gunners last year, but ultimately he penned a new contract in July last year.

However, Nelson sadly hasn’t kicked on, and he continues to be on the fringes of the Arsenal squad this term.

The £30million-rated winger has played 23 times for the Gunners in 2023/24. However, just five of those appearances have been starts.

Arsenal backed to sell Reiss Nelson for the right price

Watts, writing on CaughtOffside, believes Arsenal will probably accept a Premier League rival’s offer for Nelson if they deem it high enough.

“I think Reiss Nelson will go this summer and don’t think he will be the only academy product to do so,” Watts said.

“Arsenal need to bring in some cash to help boost the finances and the likes of Nelson, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe will all generate interest.

“Nelson was very close to leaving last summer when his old deal was running out. Brighton were very interested, as were AC Milan.

“But Nelson loves Arsenal and Mikel Arteta was happy with the performances he produced over the second half of last season.

“Arsenal didn’t want to lose him on a free and so they pushed for him to sign a new deal and ultimately he decided to stay put.

“However, I don’t think that means he will definitely stay this summer. Interest remains in Nelson from several Premier League clubs.

“I don’t think Brighton have gone away. And if a good bid comes in from them or anyone else, I think Arsenal will take it and look to invest that money elsewhere.”

It’s a shame when a player who has come through the ranks, broken into the first team and absolutely loves the club looks like he could be leaving.

Nelson is a very exciting talent and certainly has what it takes to make an impact at Arsenal. However, he’s just not getting enough game time and, at his age, he really needs to be kicking on.

When the likes of AC Milan and Brighton are after a player, that clearly shows he’s got something specual about him.

Let’s hope that the ‘electric‘ Nelson gets offers from those same clubs, or other top outfits, this summer.
