Tottenham could make summer move for ‘super’ midfielder who scored twice against them this season

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for a Premier League midfielder who was able to score twice against them this season.

Ange Postecoglou is quickly building this Tottenham squad into his own having already made numerous signings since his appointment.

Several players have been signed from outside of England, but it seems the Australian may have been impressed by something he saw against his own side.

Tottenham showing interest in Joao Gomes

Spurs were beaten 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this year by Wolves and Joao Gomes was the man to score both of those goals.

Now, according to The Mirror, are one of the Premier League sides who are showing an interest in the Brazilian midfielder.

Alongside Newcastle United, Manchester United are believed to be the side who are showing the most interest as they eye up a potential £40m bid this summer.

Gary O’Neil’s side are said to be aware of the interest in their 23-year-old and have already started the process of identifying a possible replacement.

What Postecoglou has said about summer signings

It is apparent Gomes is a player who is on the list of a number of clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

And he is a player who has received a lot of praise from his manager, O’Neil, who has said: “He’s a super talent.”

“He’s been very impressive. At his age and with a lack of experience of Premier League football, it’s still something you have to work with him on and try to improve.”

Spurs have seen first-hand just what the 23-year-old is capable of doing after he ran the show in north London just weeks ago.

And Postecoglou has already admitted that his side will be looking to strengthen in the summer transfer window.

“With all these things it’s about trying to strengthen the group as much as anything else. If you think about when I first arrived, we had maybe six or seven centre-backs at the club,” he said.

“So it’s not just numbers. It’s more about the ability of those players to play the football we want and to fit in to what we’re trying to build here.”

A list of midfielders have already been linked with the Lilywhites ahead of the summer with the likes of Conor Gallagher and Ederson said to be on the radar.
