'He's a manager's dream': Paul Merson says West Ham have a 27-year-old who truly 'gives you everything'

West Ham United have had a mixed season so far, with fans enjoying some memorable European nights but with the Premier League proving a source of frustration.

For instance, West Ham drew 1-1 with Aston Villa in the league last time out, and VAR controversially chalked out two Hammers goals in the match.

It also remains to be seen whether West Ham manager David Moyes will sign a new deal, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

Nonetheless, the Hammers have a good squad and will look to kick on no matter what happens ahead of next season, so they must do what they can to retain their top players this summer.

One West Ham player who deserves particular praise is Jarrod Bowen. The 27-year-old is enjoying another superb season in claret and blue, with 18 goals and seven assists to his name.

West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen deemed a ‘manager’s dream’

Bowen’s efforts have seen him earn a call-up to the latest England squad for their March friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

The Hammers cult hero is currently on five international caps, and though injury forced him to leave the last England squad in November last year, he’s now back in the fold.

Whether Bowen can make it into the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 squad, however, remains to be seen.

Paul Merson, writing on Sky Sports, says he likes the former Hull ace, deeming him a “manager’s dream” who “gives you everything”.

However, the pundit is still concerned about Bowen’s chances of making the squad, thinking there may be disappointment on the cards.

“Jarrod Bowen can play in three or four positions across the frontline,” said Merson. “I like him, he’s a manager’s dream and gives you everything but he might just miss out of the Euros squad.

“He’s unlucky but Southgate has so many options. He’d have been sweating if Sterling was ripping it up. There’s going to be some disappointed players this summer.”

It’s nice to hear Merson speak highly of Bowen, and it seems as though he’d like to see him make the England squad.

With Bukayo Saka leaving the England camp due to injury, Bowen’s chances of featuring in these friendlies has increased.

Let’s see whether Bowen can impress Southgate and then finish the season on a high note with West Ham, giving the England boss further food for thought.
