5 players who may have already played their final game for Wolves, including ‘incredible’ star - opinion

Gary O’Neil is fully focused on guiding Wolves into Europe this season, however, he also needs to resolve the future of several players in his squad.

Wolves are perfectly poised to finish in a European place this season. Just three points separate them from seventh-place West Ham.

Gary O’Neil is pouring his full focus into achieving that goal, especially after being knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-finals by Coventry.

Once the season does draw to a close, which will hopefully see the Wanderers plying their trade in European competition, O’Neil must resolve the futures of several first-team stars.

Here are five players who may have played their final game for Wolves…

Luke Cundle

A product of the Wolves academy, midfielder Luke Cundle has struggled to stake a regular claim in the first-team at Molineux, making just seven appearances.

Only four of those came in the Premier League, with the 21-year-old enjoying his football away from Wolves.

After starring at Swansea City last season, Cundle spent the first half of this campaign on loan at Plymouth Argyle before joining Stoke City in January.

It is likely his 10-year association with the Wanderers will sadly end this summer as several Championship clubs want him permanently.

Pedro Neto

If Pedro Neto departs Wolves this summer, it will come as no surprise to anyone.

Despite being ravaged by hamstring problems, the 24-year-old has still produced outrageous quality in Gold, supplying 10 assists in 23 appearances this term.

The “incredible” Portuguese forward is currently sidelined yet again with a hamstring injury and may miss the rest of the season.

If interested clubs aren’t put off by his terrible injury record, Neto’s 45-minute appearance against Fulham may be his final for the club.

Fabio Silva

Fabio Silva‘s nightmare at Wolves could be drawing to a close this summer.

The Portuguese striker arrived as a club-record signing in 2019 but has only returned a measly five goals in 72 appearances.

Still only 21, there is still plenty of time for him to turn it around, however, that looks like it’s going to be away from Molineux with Wolves looking to recoup £15 million of the £35 million they initially paid for him.

Silva is currently on loan at Scottish Premier League side Rangers, where he’s scored two goals in nine appearances.

Goncalo Guedes

The £27.5 million signing of Goncalo Guedes in the summer of 2022 is a prime example of Wolves throwing money down the drain.

Guedes has only made 18 appearances for the Wanderers since, scoring just twice.

Currently on loan at Villarreal in Spain, the 27-year-old looks destined to depart Wolves this summer as he hasn’t acclimatized to life in England.

Daniel Podence

Despite penning a new contract at Wolves before his season-long loan to Olympiacos in the summer, Portuguese metronome Daniel Podence looks likely to leave the club.

Podence, who finished as the Wanderers top scorer last season, has enjoyed a highly productive spell in Greece with nine goals and seven assists in all competitions.

Sadly, the 28-year-old has indicated that he’s felt at “home” in Greece, which suggests he could have played his final game for Wolves after making 105 appearances in Gold.
