Paul Merson responds when asked who's his favourite Chelsea player right now

It might feel like doom and gloom for Chelsea supporters because of the poor slide down the Premier League table in the last couple of years. However, the optimistic bunch will point towards the fact there’s actually a lot of talented players at Stamford Bridge with a lot of potential.

Paul Merson, who’s a Chelsea supporter, has named his favourite individual in the squad right now.

We can think of a handful of Blues stars that can hold their head up high for the level of their performances so far this campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are languishing 11th in the league table right now, but there’s still been some standout individuals.

Our shortlist for the club’s very best performers this year includes Malo Gusto, Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher.

There were so many players to adore in previous Chelsea generations. For example, supporters were often split over Frank Lampard, John Terry or Didier Drogba for the ultimate fan favourite.

It’s going to take time for this new-look Blues squad to build the same kind of bonds with the fanbase, especially when results are so inconsistent.

However, Cole Palmer is an example that there’s reason to be cheerful about something at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old’s been truly sensational during this debut season in west London.

Merson is very much part of the Palmer fan club, which is only growing by the week.

When asked his favourite player in the current Chelsea squad, Merson replied on X: “Cole Palmer.”

Cole Palmer has quickly won Chelsea hearts

The way Palmer’s walked into this chaos at Chelsea and played so elegantly has been something quite special.

His transfer is a sign that the policy to invest in so many young rising stars can sometimes pay off.

The Chelsea Chronicle has named Palmer’s five best moments of the season so far, this includes his ice cold penalty kick versus former club Manchester City in a 4-4 draw.

Palmer should be delighted with 14 goals and 12 assists in 34 Blues appearances so far, but there’s still so much more to come from this genius left-footed attacking playmaker.
