A MAN is to go on trial accused of throwing a firework or flare during a football match.

Kian Owens appeared in the dock at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, March 5.

Reading Magistrates' Court

The 19-year-old, of Stephens Firs, Mortimer, is charged with throwing a pyrotechnic at or towards the playing area during a Reading versus Barnsley match at The Select Car Leasing Stadium in Reading on December 9 last year.

Mr Owens, who was legally represented at the hearing by Heulwen Everton, spoke only to confirm his details and to plead not guilty to the single charge.

He was told the case could proceed no further that day and that it would be adjourned for a trial to be arranged.

District judge Samuel Goozee meanwhile granted Mr Owens bail with conditions.
