It would be fair to say that Newcastle United have endured a difficult time of things this season.
Indeed, Eddie Howe and his side have struggled to match the heights they scaled last season in what has been something of a reality check.
While the Newcastle boss is still thought to retain the support of the PIF hierarchy at St James’ Park, few would doubt it’s been a huge disappointment.
Though there have been some big results this time around, Newcastle sit tenth in the Premier League and could even be at risk out of falling out of the top half.
Still, there have been some bright spots. Not every signing from last summer has worked out just yet but Howe has certainly yielded a huge return on the £40m investment the club made in January 2022.
Anthony Gordon has been billed as one of the standout players in the league this season and, as such, was recently rewarded with a first call-up to the England squad.
Now, his week could be about to get even better.

That’s because, according to the Daily Mail, the door is now opening for Gordon to make his Three Lions debut at Wembley against Brazil on Saturday night.
With the likes of Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka ruled out, there is a chance the Newcastle star will line up for his country at senior level for the first time.
That will undoubtedly be a huge moment for the winger, who described representing England as a “dream” for him earlier this week.

Eyebrows may have been raised when Newcastle spent so much money on a player who did not hit the ground running.
Still, the fact he’s enjoyed such a good season at club level and could now break into the England plans ahead of Euro 2024 is a testament to the work Howe has done with Gordon.
The season has been difficult as a whole but this is further proof of the ability Howe has to improve players on the training pitch.
Gordon has spoken positively about how Howe has transformed his career, as well as life as a whole.
It’s worth remembering what a good coach Newcastle have on their hands.
