Takumi Minamino says player Arsenal sold for £16m was even better than Brazilian Ronaldo

Arsenal have had many world-class players in their squad over the years, and Takumi Minamino has now suggested that one of them was better than Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario.

The Gunners are currently on top of the Premier League table and have made it into the last eight of the Champions League. Mikel Arteta has built a phenomenal side.

Many Arsenal fans and pundits, however, feel the Gunners still need a new striker because none of their centre-forwards are prolific.

That is true, but back in the day, Arsenal had one of the deadliest strikers the world has ever seen. Former Liverpool star Minamino appears to be a huge fan of him and has rated him above Ronaldo.

Takumi Minamino thinks former Arsenal player is better than Brazilian Ronaldo

Ronaldo Nazario, in many people’s eyes, is the greatest striker in the history of football.

The Brazilian was absolutely unstoppable during his prime. He played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe back in the day, won a whole bunch of trophies for club and country and even picked up the Ballon d’Or – twice!

Ronaldo inspired a whole generation of youngsters, but it looks like Takumi Minamino would rather have Arsenal legend Thierry Henry over the Brazil icon.

The former Liverpool midfielder took part in a video on Goal’s social channels, where he was asked to play a game of Winner Stays On.

Minamino made it evident very early on that he’s a big fan of Henry, who became a hero at Arsenal before leaving them for Barcelona for £16 million in 2007 (Guardian).

The Japan international picked Henry over Robert Lewandowski, Samuel Eto’o and also the Brazilian Ronaldo!

Later in the video, however, Minamino chose Karim Benzema over Henry.

Comparing Thierry Henry and Ronaldo’s stats and records

We’re sure Minamino picking Thierry Henry over Ronaldo will spark a few debates, so let’s just look at their records to see who comes out on top.

Henry played 917 senior games for club and country over the course of his career, scored 411 goals and provided 207 assists. He also won a total of 18 trophies, including the World Cup, the Euros and the Champions League.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, played 554 games in his entire career, scored 260 goals and provided 107 assists in all competitions for club and country. Like Henry, he managed to win 18 trophies too.

Individually, the Brazilian won two Ballon d’Or awards, three FIFA Best Player of the Year trophies and also the UEFA Player of the Year award in 1998.

Sadly, injuries really troubled him and destroyed what would’ve been an even more incredible career.
