‘Cannot get past him’: Anthony Gordon says ‘strong’ Man City star is so hard to play against

Anthony Gordon has highlighted one Manchester City figure who is so difficult to play against.

The Newcastle United winger is currently amongst numerous other Premier League players as part of the England squad for their upcoming friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium.

Ahead of today’s clash against Brazil, the winger has been sharing his thoughts on some of his England teammates, with one City star getting a special mention.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the England YouTube channel, Gordon said this about why he considered putting Walker in his ideal England five-a-side team.

He said: “The reason I was thinking about Walks was you cannot get past him. So in a five-a-side he gives you the little forearm and that’s you [gone]. He’s so strong, so quick.”

City signed the right-back from fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur back in the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported fee of £50m.

During his time at the Manchester club, the Englishman has made 292 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals, supplying 21 assists and winning numerous trophies along the way.

This isn’t the first time Walker’s physical attributes have been praised, as Pep Guardiola said back in September that the full-back’s genetic qualities make him “unique” and incomparable to anyone else in the game.

As well as that, after the 33-year-old delivered a top performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League last season, keeping Vinicius Jr quiet, Thierry Henry claimed that if an opponent finds themselves in a foot race with Walker, they may as well stop running.

Bearing in mind how Gordon has played five games against the City defender and has lost all five of them, it’s easy to see why he hasn’t found it particularly easy to play against Walker.
