'He's obsessed': Gerard Pique says £378,000-a-week man at Man City genuinely thinks about football all day

Gerard Pique has revealed that his former manager at Barcelona, Pep Guardiola is “obsessed” about football.

In March 2022, Phil Foden also told Manchester City’s in-house media that the Catalan boss is constantly focused on the beautiful game and it is tough to know what he is thinking as his tactical ideas are extremely unique.

Even Thierry Henry once revealed [via Sky Sports Retro on YouTube] that the two-time treble-winning coach once showed him a DVD of one of his games at Arsenal as he hoped to reignite the hunger in the retired French striker’s eyes.

At the time, Barcelona were cruising in the title race and Henry was thriving, which goes to show how consumed Guardiola is by the sport.

Gerard Pique says Pep Guardiola is “obsessed” with football

In March, Jurgen Klopp hailed Pep Guardiola as “the outstanding manager” in his lifetime while emphasising that the most impressive facet of his career is not the fact that he has an enviable trophy cabinet.

What impressed Klopp the most is £378,846-a-week man’s relentless desire to win as well as how he continues to adapt tactically.

Gerard Pique was quizzed about his experience working with Pep Guardiola and one of the aspects he revealed is how preoccupied he is with football.

“Well, I think that he’s a genius because he’s obsessed with football and he can be all day in a room just watching clips and videos of the opposite team and try to find a way to attack them, how to defend”, he said about the City boss told Sky Sports.

“Everything is on the detail and he can control all of that. Also, I think his speech is very, very good.”

Gerard Pique went on to hail Pep Guardiola as the greatest manager the game has ever seen.

“He knows how to motivate the team in every situation and this brings you to the best coach of his generation and I’m sure that the best coach ever in the history of football.”

The constant hunger that Pep Guardiola has is what sets him apart from the rest

Much like how Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are lauded for their work ethic, the same can be said about Pep Guardiola, as Gerard Pique revealed.

Guardiola seems to go the extra mile day in and day out, despite having won as many trophies as he has in his career, which perhaps gives him an edge in every possible department over the rest.

To be the best, it is key to outwork one’s competition and it seems like the former Bayern Munich boss has always been wired to do so.
