Report: Todd Boehly wants to make 21-year-old youngster Chelsea's new 'poster boy', he could double his salary

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly believes there’s a young player at the club who can be turned into the Blues’ new poster boy for years to come.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s side have had another really disappointing season. They are currently 11th in the Premier League table, and it looks like they will be without European football for another year.

The pressure has been mounting on Pochettino’s shoulders for a while now, and many of their star signings are failing to perform. Some, like Raheem Sterling, are even getting booed by the fans.

One Chelsea player, however, has won over the Blues supporters and has become a fan favourite. Boehly loves him too!

Todd Boehly wants to make Chelsea star the club’s new ‘poster boy’

When you look at Chelsea this season, there are hardly any positives to take.

Their recruitment has been poor, most of their new signings have failed to deliver, and the manager they’ve brought in hasn’t really got the side going either.

It really is a terrible time to be a Chelsea fan, but one player who has put a smile on Blues fans’ faces this season is Cole Palmer.

The Englishman, still only 21 years old, has been Chelsea’s best player. He has scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists for the Blues, and without him, they would probably be 15th now.

Todd Boehly has noticed Palmer’s brilliance this season. GiveMeSport claim that the young attacker could be given a new contract that would double his wages if he makes the England Euros squad this summer.

The report further claims that Boerhly and the hierarchy at Chelsea ‘want Palmer to feel like an integral part of the club’s future and feel he could be the poster boy for years to come’.

Cole Palmer’s current wages and contract length

Cole Palmer only joined Chelsea last summer, so we don’t expect new contract talks to take place anytime in the next few weeks.

The Blues have become popular for handing out ridiculously lengthy contracts to their players, and they did the same when they signed Palmer last summer.

The 21-year-old has been tied down to a contract until the summer of 2030. Chelsea have an option to extend his deal by another 12 months as well.

If Palmer is handed a new contract in the coming months, we expect his wages to go up – the length of the deal will likely remain the same.

Right now, the former Manchester City man earns a weekly salary of £75,000. 14 Chelsea players are on more lucrative deals than him. (Spotrac)
