Anthony Gordon now shares the two nicknames he has amongst Newcastle teammates

Anthony Gordon has enjoyed a fantastic season for Newcastle United.

Having initially struggled since a £40m move from Everton, Gordon has been billed as one of the standout players in the Premier League this season.

Indeed, the 23-year-old is reportedly set to make his England debut against Brazil at Wembley on Saturday night as this season gets better and better for him on an individual basis.

It has been a formative campaign for Gordon. He’s more than found his feet at Premier League level and experienced Champions League football for the first time in his career.

A driving factor for Newcastle this season, it is not even worth thinking about where the team would be right now were it not for his rapid-fire improvement.

Gordon has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround. The sight of him clashing with Fabian Schar and Kieran Trippier at St James’ Park while still an Everton player almost looks like a different person, such is his new-found love on Tyneside.

Now, Gordon has lifted the lid on what he’s known as amongst Eddie Howe’s squad.

“I’ll give you one that people call me at Newcastle,” he said.

“Some people call me ‘Tony G’. Or ‘Gordy’. I like ‘Tony G’!”

Anthony Gordon: Newcastle star deserves England debut

It will be fantastic to see Gordon run out as an England player for the first time, whether that be from the start or as a substitute.

The winger has been a shining light for the club in an otherwise difficult campaign and more than deserves his call-up.

Such have been his performances in big games this season after goals against Liverpool and Manchester City and winners against Manchester United and Arsenal, it would hardly be a surprise to see him hit the ground running.
