Video: Fernando Torres scores amazing goal at the AXA Training Centre ahead of Liverpool legends game

Liverpool fans don’t have long to wait to see Fernando Torres back in the famous red.

Having built himself into a hero at the club over three-and-a-half years, Torres broke Liverpool supporters’ hearts by moving to Chelsea in 2011.

Since then, the Spaniard has returned to Anfield, but never in a Liverpool shirt. That will change today, with Torres one of 20 notable former Reds players taking part in the LFC Legends charity game this afternoon.

Ahead of the match, which aims to raise funds for the LFC Foundation, Torres and his teammates trained at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre. And, unsurprisingly, the 40-year-old was in unerring form.

Fernando Torres trains at Liverpool

When Torres left Liverpool, the club were still using the old, legendary, Melwood training facility. 13 years on and they’re now in a spanking new, state of the art compound – the AXA Training Centre.

So, when the Reds’ former No.9 rocked up to the centre in Kirkby, it would likely have been his first time there.

But no matter, as seen from a video on Liverpool’s official X page last night, Torres was looking just as he always did with a liver bird on his chest: lethal.

One moment in particular really stood out. Receiving a cross-field ping from Daniel Agger, Torres takes the ball on his chest before nonchalantly hitting a dipping, outside of the boot effort over the goalkeeper.

It was a stupidly good goal from a player who made putting the ball into the net an art form.

Three more tidy finishes followed in the video, with a through-the-legs flicked finish the pick of the rest of the bunch. Who else can’t wait to see him in action today?

Who else is playing in the legends game

Not only is Torres back at Anfield today, but he’s back at Anfield alongside Steven Gerrard. The pair are set to reignite their legendary partnership, with both named in the starting XI.

There are other players from the same era, too. Ryan Babel joins to two in the front line, with Max Rodriguez also in the line-up.

Dirk Kuyt will be on at some point no doubt, although the Dutchman starts on the bench this afternoon.

Other former teammates of Torres including Sami Hyypia, Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel and Momo Sissoko all start. We’re looking forward to this one, we can’t lie!
