20-year-old admits he's unsure if his manager will stay, amid reports Liverpool have offered him a contract

One player has now admitted that he doesn’t know if his manager will stay – amid reports Liverpool have offered the coach in question a contract.

The Reds are currently preparing for life after Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have already secured the return of Michael Edwards – who has been appointed in a new CEO of Football role.

The 44-year-old has since hired Richard Hughes to fulfil his old Director of Football role at Anfield, with the pair now hunting for Klopp’s replacement.

So, which manager could leave his players behind for Liverpool? Let’s take a look…

Florian Wirtz fails to confirm Xabi Alonso will stay at Bayer Leverkusen

Well, it was Bayer Leverkusen No.10 Florian Wirtz who admitted that his manager – Xabi Alonso – could leave this summer.

When asked about his own future, the 20-year-old Germany international told Der Spiegel: “My focus these days is on the national team, and after that I still have a lot of plans with Bayer Leverkusen.

“I don’t know what Xabi Alonso will do but my plan is clear.”

Very interesting – to say the least.

Alonso clearly hasn’t sat his Bayer Leverkusen squad down to settle the speculation and commit himself to the Bundesliga side based on Wirtz’s comments, which suggest the Spaniard could be leaving the door open for an exit.

The 42-year-old is arguably the hottest property in the world of football management right now, having guided Bayer Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga without losing a single match this season.

Bayern Munich could beat Liverpool to the Spaniard

Liverpool have already put a contract on the table for Alonso – according to TEAMtalk.

However, Florian Plettenburg of Sky Germany believes Bayern Munich are in pole position to hire the man from Tolosa if he does decide to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

Like Klopp, Thomas Tuchel has already announced a summer departure.

Therefore, many are expecting there to be a two horse race between Liverpool and Bayern Munich this summer for Alonso, who played for both clubs.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as Wirtz’s comments have only added fuel to the fire.

Interestingly, the German wonderkid is expected to be a target for Alonso if the Spaniard does opt to replace Klopp at Liverpool – along with Jeremie Frimpong.
