‘Unbelievable’: Shaun Wright-Phillips says 23-year-old Man City player has been unreal this season

Shaun Wright-Phillips has highlighted one Manchester City player he thinks is having a very impressive season.

The Citizens are currently on the hunt to regain the three titles they won last term, finding themselves in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, the quarter-finals of the Champions League and just one point off the top of the Premier League table.

In the middle of the latest international break, one pundit and former City player has identified and shared his thoughts on one current figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad he feels deserves praise for his efforts in this campaign.

Speaking in a recent video shared on the SuperSport YouTube channel, Wright-Phillips had this to say when asked which players he admires right now.

He said: “I’m a massive fan of Kevin De Bruyne but I think Phil Foden this year has just been unbelievable. He became a man this year in terms of football. This season he’s had to fill some big boots in there with Kevin being injured, he’s done it in his own personal way.”

Foden has featured in all but three of City’s matches this season across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and delivering 10 assists in 45 games.

Across the 28 Premier League games he’s appeared in, the 23-year-old has made more carries into the final third of the pitch (72) and passes into the penalty area (50) than any other player in the City squad.

This shows how forward-thinking the midfielder is when he gets on the ball and how effective he is when it comes to moving it around dangerous areas.

Foden’s overall performances in the league have earned him a solid season rating of 7.42/10 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest-rated player in the division.

Taking all of that into account, it’s clear that the England international is having a stellar season and has been a big reason why the Citizens are still in the frame to potentially win another Treble.

It’s also easy to see why Wright-Phillips has been so impressed by the City star and what he’s done on the pitch this season.

Moving forward, if Foden can continue to deliver on the pitch in terms of giving goals and assists to his side, he’ll give them a great chance of lifting more silverware.
