£30m Tottenham target has now created more set-piece chances than any player in Europe's top leagues

One Tottenham Hotspur target has now created more chances from set-pieces than any player in Europe’s top five big leagues this season.

Ange Postecoglou will have surely spent a fair amount of time with Daniel Levy discussing their future transfer plans of late.

Usually you’d say that Tottenham ‘have enjoyed’ a relatively light schedule recently, allowing them to draw up a list of potential targets, but it seems all at the club are just desperate to be playing more games.

European football has been sorely missed, and early exits in domestic cup competitions hasn’t helped either.

That being said, both Postecoglou and Levy will know that their successful transfer planning will be imperative in ensuring that this isn’t a scenario endured in seasons to come.

Spurs should return to Champions League football next season one way or another, meaning they will be an attractive club to join.

And perhaps Iceland’s Albert Gudmundsson may be becoming quite keen on the idea should he be listening to all these recent links to North London.

Gudmundsson, who scored his first ever hat-trick for his country against Israel on Thursday, is excelling in all areas of his game right now.

The £30m-rated forward has made a remarkable amount of progress in the space of 12 months and looks ready to leave Genoa for a side competing in Europe next year.

And although most of Gudmundsson’s strengths derive from open play, he is now leading the way in Europe in terms of chances created from set-pieces.

According to Opta Paolo, the Tottenham-linked player has now created 42 chances from set-pieces, more than anyone in Europe’s top five leagues.

Gudmundsson is playing with so much confidence right now and really would present an exciting profile for any clubs interested.

It remains to be seen just how well the Iceland international would adapt to a top, top team, but all the indications are positive.

It certainly seems as if Ange Postecoglou and his recruitment team are convinced at least, a link that simply won’t go away.

All that being said, Tottenham may now be frustrated in their pursuit of one Premier League talent this summer.
