Former Everton star James Rodriguez has lauded one Liverpool player after his latest international game.
Jurgen Klopp will be without a host of key players over the coming days, with plenty of Liverpool stars away on international duty.
Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk were both in action on Friday as the Netherlands thrashed Scotland 4-0.
Ibrahima Konate has also returned from injury and is training with France but yesterday’s defeat to Germany came too soon for the defender.
Elsewhere, Luis Diaz played a key role for Colombia as he helped his side pick up a surprise 1-0 win over Spain on Friday.
There were fears over an injury the winger picked up in the FA Cup defeat at Manchester United. But Diaz returned to action for Colombia and provided a crucial assist.
James Rodriguez amazed by Diaz’s latest display for Colombia
Diaz took to Instagram after Friday’s win over Spain to express his delight at picking up a surprise win.
He wrote: “We continue to grow as a group. This is the way to fight for important things. Let’s go Colombia.”
It led to praise from his international teammates, including former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez and James Rodriguez, with the latter commenting: “What a player.”
Diaz injury latest
Despite initial fears over Diaz, the winger was in fine form for Colombia on Friday and played the full 90 minutes.
The £37 million winger set up Daniel Munoz for the winner in the 62nd minute and appears to have shaken off any injury concerns.
Klopp will be hopeful the winger comes back without any fresh concerns as he prepares for a crucial run of games.
Liverpool remain level on points with league leaders Arsenal in the Premier League and also have a Europa League quarter-final against Atalanta to look forward to.
Diaz remains an integral part of Klopp’s side and despite his lack of cutting edge in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City, he has impressed in recent weeks.
