£35m midfielder 'watched closely' by Arsenal as Arteta eyes Thomas Partey upgrade

Arsenal are now scouting one midfield star as a potential alternative to summer transfer target Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal are currently preparing for life without Thomas Partey.

There is a midfield rebuild on the horizon at Arsenal. Not only is Partey’s future at the Emirates Stadium uncertain, but there are also doubts about Jorginho, and Mohamed Elneny is set to leave the club as a free agent.

As things stand, only Declan Rice represents the long-term future of Mikel Arteta’s squad in the middle of the park.

For all of his undoubted quality, Partey’s recurrent injury concerns mean that he simply cannot be relied upon to be fit and available when called upon. Jorginho is also yet to agree a new deal with Arsenal, meaning he will be able to leave north London on a free transfer this summer.

Arsenal on the hunt for new midfield signing

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Real Socieded star Martin Zubimendi, who has a £52 million release clause. He has also been described by Arsenal loanee Kieran Tierney as a “world-class” player. The Scottish left-back is currently enjoying a temporary stint with the La Liga outfit.

The Gunners have also been credited with an interest in Douglas Luiz, who is said to be a “dream” target for Arteta.

It is clear that Arsenal will seek to strengthen their midfield contingent this summer. Even if calls to extend Jorginho’s stay at the Emirates Stadium are heeded, there is still a pressing need for reinforcements to be brought in in that part of the pitch.

With that in mind, Arsenal have now turned their attentions to Bundesliga ace Manu Kone.

Arsenal are now keeping tabs on Manu Kone

According to Football Transfers, Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Kone is currently being “closely watched” by Arsenal. The 22-year-old Frenchman has been identified as a potential alternative target to Zubimendi.

Kone is a key player for Borussia Monchengladbach. He has racked up 21 appearances, across all competitions, this season for the German outfit.

Kone’s form has also attracted the interest of Liverpool. As reported by Bild last summer, the Reds were keen on securing a deal for the former France under-21s international, who was credited with a £35 million price tag.

If Arsenal were to make a concrete offer for Kone this summer, they could find that they face competition for his services.
