Report: Sir Jim Ratcliffe convinced by 27-year-old Manchester United player, ready to double his wages

Manchester United’s midfield ranks simply had to change last summer and it was no surprise to see business in that area of the pitch, but Erik ten Hag may actually be relieved about one move which didn’t materialise.

Fred left the club for Fenerbahce and youngsters like Zidane Iqbal, Ethan Galbraith and Charlie Savage moved on too, seeking first-team action elsewhere.

United went and brought in Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat, as well as promoting Kobbie Mainoo into the first-team picture.

United also had the chance to cash in on Scott McTominay as West Ham United made moves to sign the Scotland international.

A £30million offer was rejected in August with United ideally wanting around £40million for McTominay whilst Erik ten Hag ideally wanted him to stay.

Sure enough, even after links with Bayern Munich, the transfer window closed with McTominay still at Old Trafford and fighting for his place.

McTominay has certainly justified that decision, racking up seven goals in 25 Premier League games this season.

The 27-year-old just seems to have a knack for scoring goals and we saw that in last week’s FA Cup win over Liverpool.

McTominay may not be flashy but he has certainly got the job done for United this season – and he looks set to be rewarded.

Manchester United poised to make Scott McTominay decision

The Daily Star now claim that United are planning to hand McTominay a new contract.

It’s stated that McTominay has convinced Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe that he should be part of the plans moving forward.

McTominay’s performance and his ‘exemplary attitude’ are highlighted as reasons for the a new deal being on offer.

We would imagine that McTominay will jump at the chance to stay at United into his 30’s having grown up in the Old Trafford ranks.

When a Champions League legend like Casemiro praises you as ‘the type of player all clubs need’, it’s clear that you have made a great impact – and McTominay is now in line for a big reward.

When does McTominay’s current contract end?

McTominay is under contract until the summer of 2025 but United do have a one-year option as part of the contract.

The midfielder earns around £60,000-a-week at Old Trafford but will surely be in line for a pay rise with a new contract.

The report claims that McTominay could double his money to around £120,000-a-week and commit his future to United for years to come.

United aren’t under any time pressure to get McTominay tied down thanks to that one-year option, but Ineos seemingly want to reward him with a longer-term deal.

McTominay may never be an absolute superstar but United fans certainly appreciate his contribution and it looks like Ineos do as well.
