Alan Shearer now posts wordless reaction after Anthony Gordon's England debut last night

Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon made his England debut against Brazil last night, much to the delight of Alan Shearer.

Gordon gave a good account of himself on his first ever game for Gareth Southgate’s side in what was otherwise a disappointing defeat to the South American team.

The winger took to Instagram to celebrate making his debut, sparking some reactions from his Newcastle teammates as well as club legend Shearer who was in the stands watching the game.

Shearer celebrates Gordon’s England debut

It wasn’t the perfect night for Gordon who would have loved to have capped off his England debut with a goal and a win of course, but it was a promising start to his Three Lions career.

After a brilliant season so far in the Premier League for Newcastle there were few who though that this call-up was undeserved and now it’s a case of trying to make that left-wing spot his own ahead of the Euros.

It was a lacklustre performance overall from a very talented England team, something we’ve all gotten far too used to in the last few years, but Gordon is choosing to stay focused on the positives.

The 23-year-old will have another chance to impress on Tuesday when they take on Belgium who drew 0-0 with Ireland yesterday, so a big opportunity for Gordon to make his case for that 23-man squad in the summer.

On Instagram, Gordon posted: “A moment I’ve been dreaming about since I could kick a ball, an evening to remember. Another big game on Tuesday! 🦁✨”

Shearer then reacted with: “👏👏👏👏”

Gordon needs to finish the season strong with Newcastle

Gordon has already outperformed every other left-wing option for England this season, but this is absolutely no time for the young man to ease up ahead of the European tournament.

There’s definitely a spot wide open for someone with Jack Grealish injured and out of form while Raheem Sterling has not been selected for an England squad for a while now, and there’s no reason why Gordon can’t be that option.

Newcastle don’t have too much left to play for, but for Gordon it’s 10 games left to solidify himself in Southgate’s thinking when he picks his 23-man squad for the summer.

It is, after all, Gordon’s ultimate dream for this season and would cap off what has been a brilliant campaign for him individually and give him a great platform to work off of for the new season.
