'I know they like...': Crystal Palace stance on £12m striker scoring every 87 mins - transfer expert

Crystal Palace are set to assess their options in the transfer window this summer, with Oliver Glasner said to want to bolster his strikers, seeing Ajax star Chuba Akpom named as a player the club appreciates.

Crystal Palace will be hoping to bolster their attack this summer as Oliver Glasner prepares for his first transfer window in charge of the Eagles.

The main theme regarding the summer at Selhurst Park is the future of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, who have attracted interest over time due to their illusive displays in South London.

Glasner will be keen to put his stamp on the squad he inherited from Roy Hodgson in February, with plenty of work to be done to ensure Palace show more progression next season.

Crystal Palace could target Ajax striker Chuba Akpom in the summer

As the transfer window nears, rumours begin to circulate, with a number of attacking stars already linked to Selhurst.

As documented earlier today, Palace appreciate the talents of strikers Serhou Guirassy and Eddie Nketiah, as well as liking Sporting CP winger Marcus Edwards.

It looks as though Glasner will want to strengthen his front line this summer, with another attacker said to be a player liked by the club, as HITC journalist Graeme Bailey exclusively told We Are Palace.

“It’ll be interesting to see which way they go, I know they like Chuba Akpom at Ajax but I don’t see them signing him as first choice.”

“A striker is very high up in their list but it depends what happens with the rest of the squad, if they lose a centre-back, then they’ll need a centre-half as well.”

What Chuba Akpom could offer to Crystal Palace

Despite not being reported to be Palace’s first choice of a striker, Chuba Akpom could provide Glasner with the clinical spark he requires to lead the line.

The Englishman, who was linked to Selhurst back in January, was snatched up by Ajax from Middlesbrough for just £12m last summer.

Having risen through the ranks at Arsenal’s illustrious Hale End academy, Akpom knows the ropes of playing in England, having made four Premier League appearances and a further 129 Championship appearances.

Last season, the striker showed his worth in the second tier, scoring 28 goals to be the Championship’s top scorer, ahead of marksman Viktor Gyokeres.

The 28-year-old’s scoring streak hasn’t dried up since moving to the Eredivisie, having netted 11 goals in all competitions for Ajax so far this season, averaging a goal every 87 minutes in the league, via Sofascore.

Signing Akpom could certainly boost Glasner’s options in attack as he continues to show his potency in front of goal however, only time will tell if the Eagles push the Englishman higher up their wanted list.
