FSG and Michael Edwards should think about a partnership with former Liverpool player’s new club - opinion

Even though Jurgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool there are exciting developments going on at the club right now. Much of it has been heralded by the return of the club’s former sporting director Michael Edwards.

Edwards will not only oversee Liverpool in his new role, but he will be the head of football operations at FSG. When announcing his return to work with the club’s owners, Edwards made it clear that FSG were exploring a multi-club model. In fact, Edwards claimed it was this which ultimately drove him back to the club.

Exactly what those multi-club plans are we don’t quite know. For long, there have been murmurs of FSG investing in other clubs. But so far that has materialised to nothing. However, with Edwards’ new appointment you would have to imagine behind the scenes FSG are getting closer to accomplishing their desire.

The club’s owners may already be in talks with several other clubs and will be exploring the market for potential deals to be struck. Given the direction, football has headed towards, this could be the beginning of a new era for FSG. The club’s owners should look to build a network of clubs around the world, and that should see them partnering up with Sadio Mane.

What club does Sadio Mane own?

Like FSG, Sadio Mane has become a football club owner himself recently. The former Liverpool winger is still an active playerlining-up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo for Al Nassr and the Senegal national team. However, he has already seemingly planned ahead for post-retirement.

Mane purchased fourth division French team, Bourges Foot 18, and he has lofty ambitions for the club. Mane’s goal is to bring the brightest young talent from Africa to Bourges and give them an opportunity make their mark in Europe. Very similar to the way Mane’s academy Generation Foot built a partnership with FC Metz, also in France, which saw Mane make his mark in Europe before signing for Red Bull Salzburg.

It’s an ambitious project, but Mane has always been about giving back to the community and we are certain Bourges Foot will be a successful club in years to come as they climb up the French footballing ladder.

Given Mane’s project is very similar to what FSG are trying to achieve in attracting global talents to their new prospective club, they should consider a partnership with the former Liverpool man. It would make sense to work alongside Mane and support each other in these new ventures. Similarly, how other partner clubs operate around the world.
