Report: Tottenham in race to sign 'outstanding' 25-year-old as Newcastle prepare big push to bag his signature

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the sides thought to be in the hunt to sign one Premier League player as his contract runs down into its final few months.

Spurs have shown real promise in their first year under Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham led the way in the Premier League in the early stages of the season. And this campaign could still be a very good one for Spurs given the situation they were in when Postecoglou arrived.

Tottenham put many of their rivals to shame with how busy they were in January. Both Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin signed. Werner is expected to make his loan move to North London permanent.

With that, Tottenham may be in one of the strongest positions in the summer window. And it seems that a familiar name finds himself on their radar.

Lloyd Kelly has a host of sides chasing his signature. The Bournemouth defender is set to be out of contract at the end of the season.

Tottenham remain interested in Premier League defender

Kelly is apparently open to joining Newcastle this summer. The move would reunite the 25-year-old with Eddie Howe, who managed him at the Vitality Stadium. Newcastle, of course, have lost Sven Botman for up to nine months due to injury.

Tottenham have previously shown interest in Kelly.

And according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (24/3; page 67), Spurs remain in the race along with the likes of West Ham, AC Milan and Juventus. Newcastle meanwhile, are looking to make a big push for his signature.

Newcastle may be difficult for Lloyd Kelly to turn down

It does appear that Newcastle need Kelly a lot more than Tottenham. Dragusin had a difficult time against Fulham last time out. But Tottenham have three excellent defenders in Dragusin, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

Adding Kelly would be a really smart move. But he would be forgiven for being more interested in heading to St James’ Park right now.

Newcastle have also seen their squad decimated by injury this season. And losing Botman for the majority of the rest of the year is a massive blow.

Kelly is an ‘outstanding‘ player, who has that relationship with Howe. So Tottenham may have their work cut out if they decide to confirm their interest with an offer.
