Liverpool loanee needed just 12 minutes to show ‘incredible’ quality while on international duty

There are a lot of talented young players at Liverpool right now. Not just the ones who are catching Jurgen Klopp’s eye in the first team. But also the ones who are out on loan, and catching the eye in their respective clubs.

We’ve already written about Tyler Morton, who has seriously gone under the radar this season, and was once again brilliant on international duty as well. But he isn’t the only young Liverpool hopeful who has performed to high standards in the Football League.

In Luke Chambers, Liverpool have another exciting young talent who is following the path set by Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah last season by catching the eye in League One. Chambers was sent on loan to Wigan back in the January window. Before that, during the first half of the season, he had made a couple of appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

Since arriving at Wigan, Chambers has settled in really well. He won the club’s Player of the Month for February and has seriously impressed.

What Luke Chambers did on international duty in just 12 minutes

Given his impressive form at Wigan, it was no surprise to see Chambers called up to the England U20 team. He has already featured at that level for his country a few times, including starting in a 3-2 victory over Germany.

What was a surprise is that Chambers wasn’t given a starting berth in the team in England’s first game against Poland. Instead, the 19-year-old found himself on the bench, as England ran riot. By the time Chambers was introduced in the 78th minute, England already had a 4-0 lead.

However, despite only being given 12 minutes on the pitch, Chambers made his moment count and showed why his Wigan boss, Shaun Maloney, recently labelled his performance as ‘incredible’ at club level.

Less than ten minutes after Chambers was introduced, he broke into the penalty area after a clever interchange between Kaide Gordon and Martial Godo. Chambers with acres of space ahead of him then delivered a fantastic pass across goal which was flicked on by another England player and converted into the back of the net by Ben Nelson for the fifth goal in the match for the Three Lions.

Chambers more than played his part with that brilliant pass, and once again showcased a flicker of his quality. He is a player in great form right now who has every chance to follow Bradley’s and Quansah’s example in pre-season later this summer.
