6 movies and TV shows added to Amazon Prime Video this week

Check out these six movies and TV shows added to Amazon Prime Video this week, including new shows like The Baxters.

The beginning of a new week means we have a fresh line-up of TV shows and movies making their way to Amazon Prime Video. With a mix of recent blockbuster films, world cinema classics, new documentary series, and unmissable dramas, there’s a little something for everybody over the next seven days, and here are six titles that should be on your radar…

Minions: The Rise of Gru – March 26

Love them or hate them, chances are somebody in the household is going to be over the moon with more minions making their way to Prime Video.

This prequel to the Despicable Me franchise and sequel to 2015’s Minions brings back the one and only Steve Carell to reprise the role of Gru, rewinding the clock to age 11 when he was hatching early plans to become the world’s greatest supervillain.

Putting him up against the superteam of the Vicious 6, it’s more Minions mayhem that can be enjoyed with the family or on your own if you’re looking for light, animated laughs.

American Rust: Broken Justice – March 28

The American crime drama American Rust premiered back in 2021 on Showtime but was sadly canceled after one season, cutting short the story of a police chief investigating a murder in which the son of his love interest is the suspect.

Jeff Daniels was praised for his central performance as Del Harris, and fortunately, the series was revived by Amazon Freevee.

The second season has been subtitled Broken Justice, inviting viewers back into the fold with 10 new installments.

The Baxters – March 28

Based on Karen Kingsbury’s best-selling books, The Baxters is a family drama series that looks just perfect for those missing This Is Us since its grand finale.

You’ll get to know Elizabeth and John Baxter, along with their five children, one of whom is Kari, who is mortified when she learns her husband is having an affair with a student.

Exploring the bonds of family as the Baxters come together in hard times, expect gasp-worthy moments and melodrama in spades.

Hope On The Street – March 28

Any BTS fans reading along? If so, then I’m sure J-Hope needs absolutely no introduction from me.

For those that aren’t, however, J-hope is the stage name of Jung Ho-seok, a South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter who made waves in the music world as part of the immensely popular boy band BTS, which he joined in 2013.

With an overwhelming passion for dance, the documentary series Hope On The Street follows the icon as he goes on a journey through the streets of cities, from Paris to Seoul, encountering talented street dancers.

The Imitation Game – March 29

Benedict Cumberbatch delivering a career-best performance? He might very well be in The Imitation Game, a 2014 biographical period drama and thriller based on the 1983 biography Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges.

Benedict plays Alan, one of the most important figures of World War II, who decrypted German intelligence messages for the British government.

Despite his principal efforts in winning the war, he wasn’t actually a very well-known figure until this movie was released, earning eight Oscar nominations and winning one for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Battle Royale – March 31

The 2000 action movie Battle Royale holds a special place in my heart as one of the movies that first got me into Japanese cinema. I recently got to see it on the big screen, and it’s just as incredible as the first time I saw it.

Under the guise of a field trip, a group of high-school juniors are stolen away to an island and forced to fight to the death. Only one will survive and at the most horrific of costs.

It’s The Hunger Games before The Hunger Games but with a much nastier bite and edge. Iconic in so many ways, if you haven’t ticked this off your watchlist yet then cap off the month with a blast of adrenaline.
