Report: What Sporting CP insiders are now saying about Goncalo Inacio after claims Newcastle want to sign him

Newcastle United have now learned how much they will have to pay to sign Sporting Lisbon defender Goncalo Inacio.

There’s a lot of interest in the centre-back who Newcastle have been tracking for months now and could target as the perfect man to temporarily replace the injured Sven Botman.

Inacio has been very impressive the last couple of years attracting the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid, and now a report from ChronicleLive has shared just how much teams will have to pay to secure him.

Newcastle still want to bring in Inacio this summer

Newcastle are showing a lot of interest in Sporting players this season having already been watching Inacio’s teammate Ousmane Diomande who often line up alongside each other in a back five.

Inacio is comfortable on the ball which, in this day and age, is a huge attraction for a lot of clubs who now try and build their attacking plays from their defence, and his composure is a serious quality that Newcastle would love to have.

At just 22-years-old the Portuguese still has a lot of room to grow and could be a long-term option for Newcastle to build their team around with a spine of Botman, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

The issue lies in the price with Sporting understood to want at least £52m in the summer to part ways with the defender, though Newcastle were under no illusion that players of high quality were going to come at a high price.

Newcastle’s summer budget to be really tested

It’s very well known by now just how much teams are struggling to deal with the financial rules in football with both Everton and Nottingham Forest having been dealt points deductions this season.

The Premier League is also seeing teams like Aston Villa and Wolves, who have tried to challenge for those European places, being told that they must sell their best players to have any chance of progressing.

Newcastle are in that very same boat as their ambitious owners look to challenge the traditional big six clubs while sticking to the rules, but it’s proving to be a very difficult task.

A new defender is obviously the priority at the minute, but there are a number of positions which they would like to improve in the summer and it’s looking very unlikely they’ll address evert issue given how much they had to spend in January.
