Former Preston North End striker scores from the halfway line as career rejuvenation continues

If any former Preston North End player deserves a season of success, it’s probably Louis Moult.

Players come and go but their stories stay with us and that is certainly the case with Moult.

Snapped up from Motherwell in January 2018, Moult arrived at Deepdale with a reputation for being what every club wants – a goalscorer.

Moult had smashed 50 goals in 98 games for Motherwell, boasting a record better than a goal every other game.

A hero at Fir Park after a brace to win the Scottish League Cup final against Rangers, Moult left Motherwell with nothing but love and support.

Moult’s record in a PNE shirt may not look all that incredible on paper – eight goals in 40 games – but he was incredibly popular with supporters.

‘King Louis’ came up with some big goals against Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers, but most fans will remember him for a winner at Nottingham Forest which sparked wild scenes from the travelling North Enders.

Moult connected with fans as a genuinely nice person, somebody who had time for supporters and had a genuine interest in community work alongside his playing duties.

Moult’s spell at PNE was sadly ravaged by injury and a game against Swansea City back in August 2019 proved to be his last for the club before leaving in 2021.

Injuries sadly continued to haunt Moult with Burton Albion and upon a return to Motherwell, managing just 21 appearances across two seasons.

Dundee United took a chance on Moult and that move is now paying huge dividends…

Louis Moult scores from the halfway line as Dundee United success continues

Moult penned a one-year deal at Tannadice and has enjoyed a heart-warming return to goalscoring form.

The 31-year-old has hit 16 goals in 33 games this season, inspiring Dundee United’s charge towards promotion back to the Scottish Premiership.

Arguably Moult’s best moment yet arrived on Saturday afternoon as he scored a stunning goal against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

With the ball bouncing inside the centre circle, Moult unleashed a stunning strike over the Inverness goalkeeper, rescuing a point for the Scottish Championship leaders.

BBC Sport have posted a clip of the goal with Moult scoring one of the finest goals of his career to date.

Moult can’t stop scoring this season and seeing him put the injury nightmare behind him is so great to watch.

Moult tends to be popular with fans wherever he goes and there is a reason for that; supporters see a genuine person who deserves so much from the game but has sadly seen injuries hamper him.

Now back in the goals and thriving north of the border again, this season has been just what Moult needed and PNE fans will surely be hoping that he fires Dundee United to promotion.
