Gers could have £4.3m example to tempt summer targets, £18m man is the gold standard

There are many factors that Nils Koppen and Philippe Clement can point to when it comes to trying to recruit players for Rangers.

The Gers boss already has proof that silverware is a possibility, as is competing for league titles, there is also evidence that the Ibrox outfit is a respect name in European football once again.

For players who are at the beginning of their careers though, there is another carrot that Philippe Clement can dangle for individuals who have been identified as being good enough for Rangers.

Philippe Clement has Rangers summer recruitment boost

Jack Butland has been clear about why he came to the club.

At 31-years old and having spent most of his career in England’s Premier League, his reputation was already built, even if injury had seen it take a dent in recent years.

What he wanted, was to play regularly, in front of a passionate crowd and add the medals that had been missing from a long career that had already included going to three major tournaments with England.

At the other end of the scale though, we have seen Fabio Silva, Oscar Cortes and Mohamed Diomande head to G51.

Why would three such promising players, who already had glowing reputations, want to head to the backwater of the SPFL?

The factors already mentioned will have played their part but there is another that is particularly important if Rangers are to continue to attract the best youngsters before they cost too much.

Look at the case of Diomande.

The 22-year old had never been considered for senior international football before now, after making an immediate impression since arriving from Nordsjaelland, he has had to decide between Ghana and the Ivory Coast.

Diomande is eligible to play for Ghana due to his time in the Right to Dream academy where he qualified for his passport, but his heritage and family are all rooted in the Ivory Coast.

After being called up for Ghana’s senior team, it is clear that his performances have caught the eye and it is only a matter of time before the country of his birth make a similar decision and promote him from the Under-23’s.

When Rangers player trading model goes right

Alfredo Morelos was nearly the poster child for Rangers player trading model.

A move from a provincial league followed by international recognition and success for the club saw a £16.25m transfer bid from a top five league – this is how the model should work, and bids like this should be accepted.

As it is, Calvin Bassey is the player that Koppen and Philippe Clement can point to as to why young players should join Rangers.

Having moved for over £18m, twice, and now a regular for Nigeria, it’s safe to say that heading north with no senior football experience was the right call from the Fulham defender.

Mohamed Diomande, with Rangers set to seal a permanent deal in the summer for £4.3m, is the latest to show that it, if you play well and handle the pressure, Ibrox is a place where careers can go to the next level and he should be the example used in this summer’s campaign.
