Newark’s Lepley brothers forced to retire from the Get Jerky Rally North Wales

There was a disastrous weekend for Newark’s Lepley rally driver family in Wales.

The rally driver pair took part in the Get Jerky Rally North Wales, writes Paul Horton.

The one-day event, which had some 100 competitors, started in Welshpool and would take in some of the well-known WRC Rally Wales GB stages.

George Lepley, with his co-driver Dale Bowen in the Mitsubishi Galant VR4, had a great start to the rally on the first stage Gartheiniog 1 to finish it in second place.

They then dropped back on the second stage Big Ray 1 into seventh place and had to retire on stage three Dyfnant West 1 when the car stopped with mechanical issues during the 5.5-mile stage

James Lepley and his co-driver, Simon Jones, in the historic Ford Escort battled on slightly further down the leaderboard.

By Dyfnant West 1 the pair were in the top ten to finish the stage only for disaster to strike afterwards and had to retire in service.
