'I understand': How Enzo Fernandez really feels about his Chelsea career so far - journalist

Enzo Fernandez’s Chelsea career has not gone the way he would have hoped and expected.

Enzo Fernandez joined Chelsea, one of the biggest teams in the world, last year in what was a club-record £107m deal at the time.

Fast forward to now, and the midfielder has a bottom-half finish and domestic cup final defeat against Liverpool to his name.

Things are not exactly improving either, with Chelsea currently 11th in the Premier League table, meaning that Fernandez is on course for another bottom-half finish in blue.

Ultimately, it has not been a good season for Chelsea and Fernandez.

How does Enzo Fernandez feel about his Chelsea career so far?

Fernandez is not ecstatic about how his spell at Chelsea is currently going, according to journalist Simon Phillips, which is more than understandable.

Discussing the Argentine on his Substack, Phillips said: “I understand that Enzo has been really upset with how things have gone at Chelsea so far, not because he is unhappy at the club, but because this man is a born winner and he just wants to succeed at Chelsea.”

With Chelsea needing to stay in line with profit and sustainability regulations, it has been claimed that the Blues have actually offered Real Madrid the chance to sign Fernandez this summer.

But with Fernandez being such a key player for the club, it really is hard to imagine them selling the 23-year-old and so soon after buying him.

Will Enzo Fernandez leave Chelsea?

Not yet. Again, Fernandez is one of the most important members in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad and his contract does not expire until 2031.

However, Chelsea have to improve and return to the Champions League, as Fernandez is a footballer with too much quality to be playing for a team sitting in 11th and not competing in Europe.

The Argentina international is one of the best passers in the world, completing 8.69 progressive passes per 90 minutes over the last year, putting him in the 97th percentile among midfielders (FBref).
